Someone has been out in the meadow with a flower press. Golden cosmos, a few blue cornflowers and sprigs of dried grass lie flat on cream handmade paper, their colors faded just enough to look real. The heading is lettered in warm brown, like ink on an old herbarium sheet.
In the center, her name is a raised serif in the same brown as the lettering above it; the date and the place come beneath. The flowers stay at the edges, so the words have a clear, calm space of their own.
This is the card for a summer or early-autumn shower, a garden brunch or a picnic under a tree. Press a few flowers for the place cards, put dried bunches in jam jars down the table, and give every guest a packet of wildflower seeds for the baby’s first spring.
