A kitten with a mermaid tail is the kind of idea a five-year-old comes up with and an artist should always take seriously. Here she swims among coral and bubbles, a school of small fish keeping her company, and the words sit on a big seashell in the middle of the card. It is an invitation for water: a pool afternoon, a beach birthday, a splash pad.
Under the Sea on the ribbon, the name and age in sea-blue, a line about diving in, then the details. As a video, the finish looks like bubbles in aqua and pink, and the card can arrive out of an envelope, which is a nice surprise for this one.
Plan the party in the same water: a “shell hunt” in a sandbox, blue jello cups with gummy fish, a mermaid-tail cake or cupcakes with sugar scales, and towels rolled like sushi for favors. Ages three to seven, mostly girls. If the party is at a pool, add one line about swimsuits and a grown-up staying with each child.
