Lemon branches climb all four edges of this card, drawn in the fine lines of an old copperplate engraving and then colored by hand: yellow fruit, dark glossy leaves, white blossom with a touch of green. A deep green script heading belongs to the same century as the drawing.
A strong green serif carries the mom’s name in the middle of the cream paper, with the day and the place beneath it. The card is bright without being loud, and it works whether the shower is for a girl, a boy or a surprise.
It fits a daytime shower with a Mediterranean mood: lemonade in glass pitchers, a lemon cake, sprigs of rosemary on the napkins, yellow and white striped linens. A small jar of lemon curd tied with green ribbon makes the favor.
