Hazel’s first year was peachy, so the card is covered in them: fat orange peaches at two corners, white blossom and green leaves, and a basket at the bottom spilling over onto a checked cloth. It is printed like a vintage fruit label, with the title in deep terracotta.
It is a summer card, warm and a little old-fashioned, and it suits a girl or a boy. If the baby was born in peach season, say so on the cake; if not, nobody will check.
Make it an orchard picnic even if the orchard is your backyard: peach iced tea, a peach cobbler instead of a layer cake, gingham napkins and a basket of peaches for guests to take home. A small sun hat for the birthday girl finishes the photos.
