Ten-year-olds are too old for a bounce house and too young to be cool, and an art party lands right in between. The invitation is a burst of paint: coral, turquoise, cobalt and yellow swatches, paper tubes squeezing color, brushes laid across the bottom, and a torn sheet of white paper in the middle for the message.
It suits boys and girls equally, and it works for any age that still likes to get paint on its hands, including grown-ups with a bottle of wine.
Cover a long table in kraft paper and give everyone a small canvas and the same prompt. A splatter station outside, aprons as the favor, and a gallery wall where parents pick up their artists at the end turn a living room into a studio. Rainbow cake is required.
