For the girl who wears her leotard to the grocery store. A pair of satin ballet slippers rests at the bottom, a pleated paper tutu unfurls in the corner, and the message sits inside a thin pearl frame on powder-pink paper. The whole card looks like it came out of a dance bag.
Seven is the sweet spot for this theme, though it is just as happy at four or ten, and it makes a good dance-recital party too.
Ask the local studio about a one-hour birthday class; many offer them, and a teacher handles the entertainment. At home, a tutu-decorating table, a short routine everyone learns together and a performance for the parents fill an afternoon. Serve pink lemonade and cupcakes with a ribbon tied around each wrapper. A tiara for the birthday girl is optional but expected.
