This card is for the kid who does not walk anywhere, and who makes engine noises on the way. A red vintage race car sits at the bottom, checkered flags wave across both top corners, and the headline streaks across the card in racing red.
The name goes in big, heavy letters in charcoal, the kind you would paint on the side of a car. Underneath, the date and the place in the same dark tone. Those three lines, and the grid is set.
Chalk a track on the driveway, put numbers on the kids with masking tape, and run heats of three or four around a few cones. A checkered-flag finish line is a yard of fabric from any craft store. Serve “pit stop” snacks in a row of paper bowls, and end with a trophy cake. One hour of racing is enough; two tires most drivers out.
